Breakfast – Is It Really?

Does Breakfast get you Motivated?

 

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

“Breakfast jump starts your metabolism”

“Breakfast helps you concentrate”

“Breakfast helps you maintain a healthy weight”

“Breakfast improves your mood”

Now I certainly would agree with all of the above. But is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? I’d like to challenge that statement. In fact, I assert there are two things in particular, fundamentally wrong with that statement.

First of all, what you eat for breakfast makes a world of difference. If you get up and pour yourself a big bowl of {insert favorite sugary cereal}… then, although you may improve your mood – it probably does nothing for concentration or maintaining a healthy weight. And besides, you’re likely to be tired and perhaps cranky an hour or two later.

But second, and probably even more important than the first, breakfast is just ONE meal of the day! And I adamantly believe every meal of the day is important. Don’t skip any of them. It’s not just about jump starting your metabolism. Breakfast is about making a good choice, hopefully a healthy choice, right at the very beginning of your day. And perhaps starting the day with good choices will help you to continue making smart choices throughout the day.

After all, if a healthy breakfast leaves you full of energy, nutritionally satisfied, and without the need for coffee — why wouldn’t you want to follow that up with a healthy lunch?!
